How Social Justice Movements Intersect

When we have an understanding of the underlying root causes of sexual and domestic violence, we can focus our efforts on changing these factors. How do we incorporate what we know about oppression, for example, into our everyday work in the field? How do we learn to always see the connection between other types of justice movements and the movement to end sexual and domestic violence?

  • Racial Justice

    All people deserve to:

    Live without fear of arrest

Use personal and community resilience and resistance against histories of racism and colonialism

Access to support in cultural community spaces that are uncensored or policed

  • Reproductive Justice

    All people deserve to:

    Maintain personal bodily autonomy

Make healthy and safe choices for themselves and their community

Exert personal power and control over their reproductive realities

  • Economic Justice

    All people deserve to:

Participate fully in community while receiving equitable benefits, rights, and privileges

Earn a living wage in a safe work environment

    Choose work that is fulfilling

Occupy land that is protected from mechanically induced environmental harms

  • Gender Justice

    All people deserve to:

Participate fully in the equal share of knowledge, power, and resources

Express themselves fluidly through gender, sexual orientation, and cultural community practices

Feel valued and embraced in the creation and maintenance of safer beloved communities

The Action Alliance’s How Justice Movements Connect infographic illustrates examples of how gender justice is supported by movements to build racial justice, economic justice, trans and queer liberation, and reproductive justice.

Ending Sexual Violence: An Intersectional Approach is a toolkit developed by ValorUS®, formerly the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault, that provides graphics, talking points and other resources on the connection between sexual violence and intersecting issues of LGBTQ+ equality, racial justice, economic justice, transformative justice, health and wellness, reproductive rights, and immigrant justice.
